Legends Fight Night Benefits Retired NFL Players

Legends Fight NightDing… Ding… Ding…  Are you ready!  I know we are!

Get ready for the most exciting event of the year!  Legends Fight Night!  The night’s competition consists of a golden gloves-style card, featuring exciting fighters from the United States and Canada including live musical entertainment. Expect good, clean, old-school boxing amusement and energy pumping music, with the goal of supporting a tremendously worthwhile cause.

Legends Fight Night is scheduled for October 4, 2012.  Honorary hosts of the event are Gale Sayers and Neal Wilkinson. What is the best part of this thrilling event?  It supports two amazing charities:  The Gale Sayers Center and The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund.

The Gale Sayers Center is a 501(c) (3) non-profit foundation committed to inspiring, motivating and educating Chicago area youth.  The Gale Sayers Center deploys critical resources for outreach programs aimed at raising self esteem and confidence for youth who are facing tough challenges due to peer pressure, a depressed economy, and educational obstacles.  Students learn practical, fundamental computer skills, public speaking, and receive real-life mentoring sessions from successful business, civic and sports leaders.

The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund (GGAF) is a non-stock, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing financial grants and ‘pro bono’ medical assistance to retired NFL players in dire need. The organization focuses on the humanitarian side of post-football related issues, which include coordination of social services to retired players who are in need due to a variety of reasons including inadequate disability and/or pensions.  GGAF provides hands-on assistance to help retired players and their families deal with hardships they face after football. The services include medical assistance, transportation costs for medical evaluations and surgeries, housing assistance, financial assistance for utilities, medication, and coordination of services for food, automotive payments and childcare.

Legends Fight Night will also feature a silent auction and raffle with all proceeds benefiting the OpenField Foundation.  OpenField’s aim is to unearth lesser known charity organizations, help them through financial grants, gifts, donations, and draw greater attention to their efforts.  The OpenField Foundation supporters are invited to bid on the auction’s intriguing and compelling memorabilia, products, and services.

Celebrating its tenth year, Legends Fight Night continues its tradition of honoring a “Legend” in the world of sports, the arts, business and/or philanthropy.  This year’s Legend Honoree is Mike Ditka.  Mike Ditka is passionate about giving back and helping those in need. He is the Chairman of the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund.

Please, come out for a fun-filled evening of boxing while helping to support these wonderful charities.  The event will be held at the Chicago Illuminating Company at 19 E. 21st Street, Chicago, IL  60616.  Valet parking is available.

You can make a difference!  We’ll see you there.  It’s going to be a night to remember.
