Mike Ditka, Willie Davis, Harry Carson, Gale Sayers, Kyle Turley and others form The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance, social services and medical care to retired NFL players in dire need. The organization focuses on the humanitarian side of post-football related issues, providing hands-on assistance to help retired players deal with hardships they may face after football. NFL legend Jerry Kramer, who played for the legendary Vince Lombardi on the Super Bowl I and II teams, facilitated the formation of the organization. Many members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and other NFL legends join us in our efforts. Some of the NFL greatest players have had to deal with disabilities and other hardships, many are gone but they are certainly not forgotten. NFL players like: Johnny Unitas, Mike Webster, 'Night Train' Lane and many others had to deal with many physical issues and other hardships caused by the lack of NFL disability support and adequate pensions. The Gridiron Greats Organization facilitates our mission in the memory of the "Makers of the Game."

  • BOBBY MITCHELL TRIP TO CLEVELAND LOG

    by: Bobby Mitchell

Well it was a great trip and was worth while as we had a chance to raise funds for the Gridiron Greats but it did not have a happy ending as the Browns lost to Steelers . I did have a great time, the trip to the Hard Rock to launch the Gridiron Greats on line auction on ESPN was a lot of fun.  By the way bid on those items and help the guys out.  If you have never had a chance to spend an evening with Mike Ditka the private dinner with him is more than worth whatever the donation ends up being .  What a great guy. The weather did turn bad on us with huge gusts of wind at the Miller Lite Tailgate party as a matter of fact after I left the tent blew down, but not before a very kind fan bought all of the silent auction items. The trip was a success ( other than the browns loss )  funds were raised that will help a lot of guys so I will put this trip in the win column!  -Bobby Mitchell ( HOF)

  • NFL players to wear uniform patch this season in honor of Upshaw

    by: Gridiron Greats

NFL players will wear a uniform patch this season to honor NFL Players' Association leader Gene Upshaw, who died Aug. 20.

The league announced Monday that the patch will have the initials GU and the number 63, which he wore while playing for the Oakland Raiders.

What are your thoughts on this decision by the NFL???
